Inspirations Part 3

For the love of stripes!

Stripes have been a seaside trend for over 150 years!
It all started in 1846, when Queen Victoria decided to dress her four-year-old son in a sailor suit
as they went on board the Royal Yacht.
The look was immediately popular after a painting of the child was released in 1847
by Franz Xaver Winterhalter.
This was beginning of a new nautical trend that has continued throughout time!

Stripes continued to grow in their popularity, as whats known as the "sea-to-land" look,
by women swimmers creating navy and white striped swimsuits to
male sailors wearing striped shirts as part of their uniform.
But it wasn't until 1930 when Chanel released a photo of herself in a black and white striped shirt,
while also releasing a resort wear collection filled with stripes, that this bold yet minimalistic trend took off.

The photo that started the craze: Chanel 1930

Stripes are still seen in modern day Chanel designs!

Over generations stripes have taken on a new meaning and have become the iconic symbol for nautical fashion.
Whether a garment is trimmed in black and white stripes or covered in the classic horizontal navy and white stripes, this detail is an instant reminder of that "sea-to-land" look.

Stripes are also known as an "all American" look based off of the design of our flag.  And as an American brand we are proud to sport stripes in our designs
Also, for those of you who read our introductory blog, you will know the influence and background that
baseball has on Rene Andrew.
So for those of you who know a little about baseball, it is the most all American sport!...
Thus another reason why we are inspired by stripes.

Rene Andrew incorporates stripes in many of our designs.
Although the brand is known for its' bold colors and prints, we like to add tiny touches of stripes
here and there to incorporate that classic vintage trend.
If you look at our tags and labels you will also notice that they all have our modern version of the striped look:
a thick white stripe bordered on each side by thin stripes.

From fashion to nature, here are a few examples of how stripes have inspired our designs and the brand:
